If you have been subscribing to various blogs - I subscribe to over 40 great sources - there are thousand of posts being generated a day. Really. Being a reader, it is impossible to read EVERYTHING. One can only skim through, choose and read those that are most interesting, useful and provide great quality information.
By the way I spend maximum only 1 hour a day to read. Will let you know HOW to do that in another post.
I picked up an old issue of Wired (cheap 2nd hand version) - a popular tech magazine that keeps up the latest in web trends.
One of the great nugget I read was how to increase the number of pageviews of your blog - according to Brian Lam who is editor of Gizmodo. Gizmodo is a very popular online Top 100 Blog that showcases the latest upcoming gadgets.
Without further ado: his formula for ensuring as many eyeballs as possible on your blog.
- Encapsulate Your Story in the Headline: Don’t get clever. Don’t let headlines be setups for jokes in the body of the article. Readers using RSS are scanning hundreds of blogs a day: they don’t have time for that
- Use Emotionally Charged Words: Sweet Fancy Moses! Holy Freaking Crap! All these are good. Other highly charged potent words on the Web: discount, Lego, Linux, Nascar, Tarantino, DRM and Apple.
- Enumerate: People love numbers and lists. Example: 6 Ways That Can Help To Increase Pageviews.
- Hyperbole Is Your Friend: Your bestest, most awesomest friend in the entire galaxy. And pay no attention to your English teacher.
- Sex Sells: Really. Try naming your blog post “Millard Fillmore’s Foreplay Tips”. See you get tempted to click on that don’t you?
- Go Off-Topic Occasionally: Blog about your cats or last night’s Project Runway. If you stay strictly on message in every post, you’ll sound like an infomercial.
Great list isn’t it? I’m definitely going to try out some of these strategies in future posts.
